Team Building

At Practice:

• Line up on a board by birthdays
• Minefield
• Put a deck together as a team but every other person is blindfolded
• Team Jump Rope
• Team pushup
• Team Pictionary:  Give each group a picture and have them explain what to draw to the person drawing.  Person drawing can not look at the picture
• Everyone has a balloon and must keep all in the air.  Then add a situation or take someone out and others have to help out.  How do you keep all the balloons in the air when you lose 1-2 on your team?
• Balloon squeeze (must now pop the ballons by squeezing between you and your partner)
• Use masking tape to tape a team together.  Have at least one person in the group blindfolded.  As a group you must work to get to objects.  First team to get all 3 objects and not break the tape win.
• Lego Assembly (could have one person blindfolded or could do the one where there is one created and others must create same thing.

At Games / Tournaments

• Count to 10 with back to each other
• Look up Dude
• Hand Game
• Frogger
• Back to Back Pictionary telephone

Free ball Initiation Ideas

5×5
Toss into someone on the court
Bounce onto the court
Back row drive or attack from player

(Remember that kids should be sending free balls to zones 1, 5, 0, or directly to the setter)

Pursuit Drill off an exercise

Place an exercise ball in the middle of the net.
Coach tosses ball onto the exercise ball
Players must get the ball up and then her partner(s) need to hit the ball over the net

Serve Receive Play out with 3

• 3 person in serve receive position
• Ball is served in
• If the ball goes to left or middle back, the right back comes forward to set the ball.  If it goes to the right back, middle back sets.

Team Jump Rope

Entire team stands on one side of a swinging jump rope.
Team challenges can progress as:

• Each person runs through to the other side
• 2 people need to run together through to the other side
• ?? Players need to run together through to the other side
• Can also do the same but players must jump together 3 times and then jump out
• Can also line up teams and they must jump together a certain number of times.

Wicket with Hoses: Serve Receive team Movement & Communication

• 3 players are in serve receive
• All 3 players move in correct passing position, angularly to show the area each is responsible for.
• Each player is holding a hose in a circle out in front of them.
• Players must have the ball go through their hose and legs, along with a player behind them to catch the ball. 
• Players should be talking to each other with "Mine" and "Go"
• After those 3 players have successfully caught 3 balls, a new group of 3 comes in.

Serve Receive quiet platform Progression

1. Under the net shuffle from sideline (coach tosses but player just lets the ball hit the platform - no swinging
2. Player is at the 20 foot line.  Coach tosses the ball.  Player needs to let the ball go through the hose and through their legs.
3. Player is at 20 foot line.  Coach tosses the ball and the player needs to let it hit their platform (still now swinging)

Softball Serving

The serving team are the batters
The serve receive team is the defense
Play 6 innings

• Scoring:
• An Ace or shanked ball gives the batters (servers) a home run
• Missed Serve or pass to the target (caught ball) is an Out

After the batters (servers) have 3 outs, teams switch.

One inning is after both teams get to bat.  Continue for certain number of innings.

5 by 5

• One line of passers
• One line of hitters on the outside
• Coach tosses ball to middle line of passers
• Passer passes a down up / 5 x 5 ball to the hitters on the outside

• Virus:  Coach tosses random "first pass" 
• 2nd contact needs to turn into a 5x5 pass to outside or backrow attack
